“How to” books are a great way to generate profit and break into the publishing world. Today, people are thirsty for knowledge. The internet has allowed us to quickly search, learn and quickly become knowledgeable about many different topics.
Let’s face it, the economy is getting better, but many experienced people have been laid off or can’t find current employment. These people, maybe even you, have a wealth of knowledge. Writing “How To” books is a great way to share this knowledge and make money while doing it.
Think about it, I am sure you can think of a topic that you are already an expert at. Maybe a family member or friend has said to you- “man you sure know your stuff about….” The fact is that writing “how to” books are an easy and great way to make a living as well as breaking into the writing field. Many of these books do not have to be lengthy in content and can be as technical as you want them to be. Writing about topics that you already are familiar with, is also a great way to break through writer’s block.
The best way to start is by starting on an outline of questions on “how to” do something in your topic. For example if you were a mechanic- how to change your oil in your car- may be the perfect chapter to write about. Now, what other questions did your customers frequently ask you when you were (or maybe they still do) a mechanic? These are the questions you want to base your chapters on. Then simply sit and write the answers to each of the questions- and bam- you have your first “how to” book.
